Case: Strategic Guidance for Achieving Compliance and Innovation in AI & Robotics (2025 Edition)
Led by Women in Robotics and Women in AI Governance, with contributions from global industry and policy experts

In anticipation of the EU AI Act’s phased implementation beginning in 2025, a cross-disciplinary group of experts launched a practical, forward-looking initiative: the Strategic Guidance Document for Achieving Compliance and Innovation in AI & Robotics. This dynamic resource was co-created by members of Women in Robotics and Women in AI Governance, with input from compliance leaders, robotics engineers, ethicists, and legal scholars from around the world.
The goal was clear: support companies working with embodied AI—robots, autonomous systems, and complex cyber-physical technologies—as they navigate legal uncertainty without sacrificing innovation. Rather than produce a traditional white paper, the team developed an actionable, modular toolkit organized around ten critical steps, covering governance frameworks, risk classification, cybersecurity, transparency, and regulatory sandboxing.
The document has already become a reference point for startups, scaleups, public-sector labs, and enterprise compliance teams preparing for the EU AI Act and related regulations such as the Machinery Regulation and Cyber Resilience Act. It includes real-world examples, recommended standards, and practical checklists aimed at reducing fragmentation across jurisdictions and helping companies avoid reactive, last-minute retrofits.
This living document is not only a tool for compliance—it is a roadmap for building AI systems that are lawful, explainable, and resilient by design. It reflects a growing consensus: in 2025 and beyond, proactive governance is not a burden—it’s a competitive edge.
